RV Tire Covers - Covers for RV Tires, Spare Tires and Wheels

The sun and its UV radiation is unmerciful to rubber tires. RV tires and spare tires can be destroyed by the environment in as little as just one season if not properly cared for. It is critical that RV tires are protected from the sun’s damaging ultraviolet rays, as well as from ozone. Tires on vehicles kept in storage are subject to premature cracking, especially in the sidewall area, which can lead to blowouts. Incidentally, for vehicles used frequently, oils in the tires come to the surface during flexing and protect the rubber from ultraviolet light. The most efficient way to increase tire life is to stop the penetration of UV rays without cutting off the oxygen flow around the rubber.

For vehicles not used frequently, tire damage can be greatly reduced with the use of protective coverings. Quality protective coverings that guard against environmental damage are available for your tires.

Covers for Spare Tires. For the spare tire on your RV or motorhome, it's a good idea to add the protection of a tire cover. Several RV tire cover manufacturers offer heavy-duty fleece backed vinyl will last years outdoors without fading. An elasticized rear hem will secure the tire cover in place. Colors and thematic cover designs are options as well.

RV Wheel Covers - For Tires on the RV. To cover tires on your RV, there are generally two types to consider:

  • Fitted Tire Covers.
  • Fitted RV Tire Covers typcially constructed of heavy-duty flannel-backed vinyl, which reflects heat and light and repels liquids. A bungee cord fasteners, good snaps or other reliable fastener system is critical so that the wind will not tear the covers off. To determine correct size, measure tire diameter from tread edge to tread edge, across center of wheel cover. Tire cover construction often features seams that are overlapped, with double needle stitching for extra strength. Also, in some models, reinforced grommets located on each side of the cover allow for a tailored look and, most importantly, eliminate loss to wind.
  • Shade-Type Tire Covers.
  • To allow air to circulate freely around a tire for good ventilation, many manufacturers produce a stiff, window-shade type RV tire cover. Unlike fitted tire covers, which must be wrapped around your tires with each installation, a shade-type tire cover is installed once under under your wheel wells, and then simply snapped on.
